Turton of Napa built this Dutch Colonial style Noble-Galleron Building for businessman and undertaker, John S. Noble.\u00a0 It was, for many years, a furniture and undertaking business.\u00a0 Often the two businesses were located together, since it took the same skills to make tables as to make caskets.<\/p>\n<p>The front window of the store displayed furniture, as it would be set up in a private home.\u00a0 The entrance was lit with electricity at night.\u00a0 Noble\u2019s desk was just inside the entrance where he could greet people and direct them to the appropriate part of the store.<\/p>\n<p>Inside was a reception room for ladies, a funeral chapel, a stockroom for caskets and coffins, a morgue in the rear, and a showroom for the furniture department, including pianos, sideboards, bedroom sets and decorative items.\u00a0 An unusual feature was the concrete floor covered with linoleum.\u00a0 Upstairs were galleries of items not on the floor display.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>St. Helena Star <\/em>newspaper, Allison in Wine Country (a clothing store), Coldwell Banker Realty, and Farmers Insurance are now housed in the Noble-Galleron Building.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_map _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.91&#8243; address=&#8221;1200 Main St, St Helena, CA 94574, USA&#8221; address_lat=&#8221;38.5040985&#8243; address_lng=&#8221;-122.46783270000003&#8243; mouse_wheel=&#8221;on&#8221; mobile_dragging=&#8221;on&#8221; use_grayscale_filter=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>[et_pb_map_pin _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.91&#8243; title=&#8221;1200 Main Street St Helena CA&#8221; pin_address=&#8221;1200 Main St, St Helena, CA 94574, USA&#8221; pin_address_lat=&#8221;38.5040985&#8243; pin_address_lng=&#8221;-122.46783270000003&#8243; \/]<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_map][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Noble-Galleron Building, built in 1903 by Luther M.
